Talking about getting lucky while shed hunting, I did. I was walking a small drainage in early March behind my home in southern Decatur county Iowa and stumbled upon this heap of horns. I could see it from 40 yds away, jumped the ditch and climbed up the grade to the skull, no shrinkage here, it got bigger as I completely pulled it out of the brush pile.
The weird thing was that I walked this same drainage last year and didn't see the horns. It appears the skull/horns are two years old. Put a tape on it at 174 as is, it has a couple of rodent damage spots and a couple of broken tines, otherwise with a full rack it would easily be in high 180's.
Last year I also found a dead monster buck, I have mounted this one, as I am going to do with the current one. Check 'em out.

Rex, you keep finding these right after I leave! Amazing finds.
Can't wait to hear about the monsters you have taken yourself since moving to Iowa!
